July 15 to July 29, 2017, Venture Outside partnered with the Clara Barton Center for Diabetes Education to hold its second annual Adventure Camp for Teens with Type 1 Diabetes.
At this camp, we share what making it to the top of a mountain can do for the soul! Campers are inspired and empowered to confront their fears, heights, waves, self doubts and rainstorms, all while managing diabetes. “If [you] can tackle a vertical granite wall, [you] can do anything” (Morgan age 16, NY). “I was surprised at how proud of myself I felt after getting out of my comfort zone and trying new things” (Bailey, age 14, CT). Activities include high adventure rock climbing, mountain biking, white water rapids, and summiting high peaks.
Our campers experience a voyage of self-discovery and adventure, by facing both physical and mental challenges and working as a team as they bushwhack their way to both group and personal success. We also include lessons about nature, music making, and leadership.
The Adventure Camp provides more than just a memorable experience – it inspires a new and healthy approach to life!
